Linking a community's perception of the state of their coral reefs to its present condition

Ascertaining the link between the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of an isolated population in Man-O-War Bay and between the health state of the coral reef ecosystems adjacent to the community was the aim of this study.

The techniques used for both aspects of this research were set so that they could be replicable and accessible to non-specialists, meaning that stakeholder involvement could be implemented in the conservation of the coral reefs.

On account of the results obtained, it was possible to establish the link intended between the community knowledge, attitudes, practices, and the health status of the coral reefs. Furthermore, it was also showed that the most damaged reefs are the ones geographically closest to the village, proving that even though there is a positive attitude in the population's mind, the actions practiced are not the healthiest for the ecosystem.
