Marine microalgae: a multifaceted treasure from the sea for human health

The student(s) will integrate the research team guided by C. Sansone and C. Brunet who focus their research on the development of microalgal biodiversity for biotechnological purposes (environmental, cosmetics, nutraceuticals).

The student(s) will participate to the different steps of their work, from microalgal cultivation under different environmental conditions to growth and photosynthetic rate determination, bioactivity assessment and biochemical analysis for the quantification of different types of compounds (pigments,etc.). The students will acquire the main methodologies operated in the field of biotechnological research on marine microalgae and will learn molecular biology procedures for the analysis of the variation of gene and protein expression in cells treated with specific natural compounds. The students will also participate to the data interpretation and elaboration of experimental results.
